Shocking Discovery at IRCTC VIP Lounge
A Delhi man’s visit to the IRCTC’s VIP Executive Lounge took a disturbing turn when he found a live centipede in his raita. Aaraynsh Singh took to X to share his disgust and raise awareness about food safety issues. In a sarcastic post, he mocked the claims of improved food quality on Indian Railways, posting a stomach-turning picture of the centipede floating in his meal. He captioned it: “Yes, for sure, Indian Railway food quality has improved, now they are serving raita with more protein.”
Mr Singh also pointed out the alarming implications of finding such contamination in an IRCTC VIP Executive Lounge, questioning the standards in regular trains and pantry cars. He remarked, “This happened in one of the IRCTC VIP Executive Lounges, so you can imagine the quality in regular trains or pantry cars.”
After discovering the centipede, Mr Singh warned fellow passengers about the contaminated food but was surprised to find that many ignored his alert. This lack of concern for food safety raised further concerns about hygiene on Indian Railways.
IRCTC Apologizes and Promises Action
Following the viral post, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) responded, apologizing for the incident and promising to investigate. Their official X account wrote, “Sir, inconvenience regretted. Kindly share receipt/booking details, station name along with mobile no for immediate action.”
Social Media Demands Higher Hygiene Standards
The incident sparked widespread outrage online, with users demanding better food quality and hygiene standards on Indian Railways. Many urged Mr Singh to file a formal complaint. One user noted, “No wonder parents always carried their food and never had anything from the pantry.” Another commented, “The main issue is passenger hygiene! Food waste is left on the floor and washed with a water jet, creating sludge that accumulates in crevices, attracting pests that find their way into food.”
Others voiced concerns about the potential health risks, with one person saying, “Oh god, that’s so sick. People need to be careful while consuming their food; it can lead to serious health issues.” Another user joked, “Dude! You finished this much? The glass looks almost empty. God, I would have puked.”
