FSSAI Extends UCO Collection Approval Till July 2026

At a Glance

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has extended provisional approval for 63 Non-Food Production (NFP) units that collect used cooking oil (UCO) from food businesses. These units help prevent the reuse of unsafe oil and support biodiesel production, contributing to both public health and environmental sustainability.

FSSAI Extends Approval Until July 31, 2026

In its latest order, FSSAI allowed the 63 listed units (Annexure I) to operate until July 31, 2026, or until the respective State or Union Territory implements a formal registration system under the Gazette Notification issued on April 30, 2019, by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

Conditions for Continued Approval

  • All approved units must follow FSSAI’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), instructions, and guidelines.
  • FSSAI reserves the right to cancel approval if a unit violates any rule, provides false information, or fails inspection.
  • The Competent Authority has formally approved this extension.

By extending this approval, FSSAI ensures that food businesses properly dispose of used cooking oil, reducing the risk of it being reused in food and redirecting it to eco-friendly biodiesel manufacturing.
