Key Development
Health advocate and influencer Revant Himatsingka, popularly known as Food Pharmer, recently shared findings from his independent paneer testing on X (formerly Twitter). He tested 11 paneer samples and reported that packaged brands such as Amul Fresh Paneer, Amul Malai Paneer, Gowardhan, Humpy A2, ID High Protein, Milky Mist, and Desi Farms passed the purity and health tests.
Street and Local Paneer Fail Purity Check
In contrast, none of the street food or local dairy paneer samples met the purity standards. Despite claims from many vendors that their paneer was made from “100% milk,” the tests reportedly showed otherwise. Some local dairy owners even refused to speak with Himatsingka’s team during the process. Himatsingka explained that analogue paneer—a cheaper substitute made using palm oil—contains only about half the protein found in real paneer. He warned that its increasing use among small eateries and vendors could pose health risks.
Low Cost Drives the Shift to Fake Paneer
Earlier in February, Himatsingka highlighted that analogue paneer’s affordability has fueled its popularity. It sells for around ₹210 per kg, while genuine paneer costs about ₹450 per kg. He also shared three simple at-home tests consumers can use to identify real paneer and avoid imitation products.
