Shocking incidents across China have raised major concerns over food safety after consumers discovered human teeth in everyday food items. On October 13, a woman in Jilin province found three artificial human teeth inside a grilled sausage she had bought for her child from an outdoor stall. The vendor initially denied the claim but later apologized after local market authorities intervened.

Dim Sum Contamination in Guangdong

On the same day, a woman reported that her father found two human teeth in dim sum at a Sanjin Soup Dumplings restaurant in Dongguan City. The restaurant stated that its company headquarters supplied all dumplings but could not explain how the teeth got into the food. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

Artificial Tooth Found in Sam’s Club Cake, Shanghai

The following day, a customer in Shanghai discovered an artificial human tooth embedded in a jujube and walnut cake at a Sam’s Club outlet. She recognized the tooth as artificial due to a visible metal screw. Staff expressed shock, emphasizing that food produced in their factories should not have such problems. The customer refused the 1,000-yuan (US$140) compensation offered, citing dissatisfaction with staff behavior.

Authorities Act Under Food Safety Law

China’s Food Safety Law requires businesses to compensate consumers ten times the price of unsafe products or three times their actual losses, with a minimum of 1,000 yuan. The Shanghai Pudong New District Market Supervision Department has opened an official investigation, urging strict compliance with food safety standards.

These incidents highlight ongoing challenges in food hygiene and quality control in China. Authorities urge consumers to stay vigilant, report unsafe food, and ensure that vendors follow regulatory guidelines.
