Key Update
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has deployed an authorised officer to monitor and inspect food imports at the Air Cargo Complex of Kannur International Airport, Kerala. This decision officially designates the airport as a new entry point for imported food products into India.
Kannur Airport Becomes New Food Import Hub
FSSAI’s latest notification recognises Kannur International Airport (Port Code: INCNN4) as a valid food import entry point. The notification partially revises the earlier one issued on July 21, 2025, and will remain effective until further orders. An officer of the rank of Superintendent, Appraiser, Inspector, or Examiner will now handle food import inspections and clearances at the airport’s cargo terminal. The officer will ensure that imported food consignments comply with India’s safety and quality standards before they enter the domestic market.
Ensuring Legal and Food Safety Compliance
The appointment follows Section 25 and Section 47(5) of the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act, 2006, and Regulation 13(1) of the FSS (Imports) Regulations, 2017. These provisions mandate strict regulatory checks on every food consignment entering India to safeguard consumer health. By extending oversight to Kannur, FSSAI strengthens its nationwide monitoring network across airports and ports. The move ensures that imported food items arriving through Kannur International Airport undergo rigorous safety checks, reinforcing India’s commitment to maintaining high food safety standards and consumer trust.
