A video allegedly showing rats crawling over uncovered food at the Shaheed Bhagat Singh College canteen, Delhi, has gone viral, triggering widespread concern among students about hygiene and food safety on campus. The clip shows rodents scurrying across utensils and food items, raising serious questions about the canteen’s cleanliness.
Students Demand Accountability
Many students said the incident was extremely disturbing, noting that they rely on the canteen daily and expect basic hygiene. They demanded stricter monitoring of food contractors and greater accountability from the administration. The college clarified that the video is not recent but said it acted promptly when the issue resurfaced. Principal Arun Kumar Attree stated that the administration immediately cancelled the canteen vendor’s tender after receiving the complaint.
Search for New Vendor Delayed
The Shaheed Bhagat Singh College asked the morning and evening students’ unions to jointly recommend a new vendor. However, Attree noted that the unions have yet to finalise a replacement despite repeated follow-ups.
