Denver Health Inspectors Destroy Food at Unlicensed Eatery, Video Sparks Debate

Key Update

A video showing a female health inspector pouring bleaching powder onto food at an unlicensed street-side eatery in Denver, Colorado, in the United States, has gone viral on social media. The inspector, who works with the Denver Department of Public Health and Environment (DDPHE), carried out the operation with a male colleague. The incident occurred at an unlicensed outlet called Tacos Tacolorado.

Authorities Cite Repeated Violations

DDPHE spokesperson Amber Campbell said the department had issued five earlier warnings to the owners, emphasising that the eatery’s unhygienic conditions posed a serious public health risk. She explained that the owners often fled whenever officials arrived, but this time Isidro Garcia Barrientos and Isnely Dominguez Aguilar did not get the chance to escape.

Why Inspectors Used Bleaching Powder

Officials poured bleaching powder over the food to ensure no one could pack, salvage, or resell it. Campbell clarified that public health teams routinely use this procedure to prevent unsafe food from reaching consumers and to reduce the risk of illness.

Public Reaction Split

The video triggered strong reactions online. Many users argued that contaminating the food was harsher than the violation itself and accused the officials of overstepping. Others defended the inspectors, stating that the action was justified and necessary to stop the resale of unsafe food and to protect public health.
