Key Update
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) conducted extensive inspections on Thursday to check food safety compliance among commercial units that use more than 50 litres of edible oil per day. During the drive, officials identified several violations of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) norms.
27 Notices Issued for Non-Compliance
AMC teams inspected establishments across Paldi, Sabarmati, Stadium, Shahpur, Vejalpur, Sarkhej, Gota, Chandlodiya, Lambha, Isanpur, Maninagar, Jamalpur, Raipur, Kuber Nagar, Naroda and Amraiwadi. They found key lapses, including failure to monitor Total Polar Compounds (TPC) and improper disposal of used cooking oil (UCO).
The health department issued 27 notices under Section 32 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, directing businesses to correct the violations within seven days. Officials warned that failure to comply may result in strict action, including the sealing of premises.
Why Monitoring TPC Matters
Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation highlighted that FSSAI mandates strict monitoring of edible oil in establishments that use large quantities. Repeated heating increases TPC levels, and once TPC crosses 25%, the oil becomes unsafe for consumption, posing a direct risk to public health.
