Key Update
The Punjab Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) collected 211 paneer samples during a two-day statewide enforcement drive aimed at detecting adulteration and strengthening food safety standards. Officials carried out the inspections on Monday and Tuesday across dairies, processing units, and retail outlets in both urban and rural areas.
Samples Sent for Laboratory Testing
Punjab health minister Balbir Singh said authorities sent the samples to the state food laboratory for detailed analysis. The tests will check for adulteration, contamination, and compliance with prescribed food safety standards. He warned that authorities would take strict legal action against any food business operator found violating norms under the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India framework and the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
Milk Drive Earlier Found Multiple Violations
The paneer inspection drive followed a statewide milk sampling campaign conducted on May 6 and 7. According to the minister, officials collected 204 milk samples during that exercise. Of these, 68 failed quality standards, while one sample was declared unsafe.
Officials Push Hygiene Awareness
FDA commissioner Kanwal Preet Brar said food safety officers also used the drive to educate food business operators about proper hygiene and storage practices. The Punjab government stated that enforcement drives against adulterated food products will continue across the state in the coming weeks.
