Saudi Arabia Recalls Godiva Chocolate Bar Over Undeclared Egg Allergen

Significant Update

The Saudi Arabia Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has announced the voluntary recall of GODIVA Kunafah & Pistachio Milk Chocolate Bar (35g) after discovering that the product contains egg, an ingredient not declared on the label. Pladis Arabia Food Manufacturing Company initiated the recall for the Belgium-made chocolate bar following the identification of the undeclared allergen.

Undeclared Allergen Poses Health Risk

The SFDA warned that the product could trigger allergic reactions in consumers with egg allergies or sensitivities, particularly children. The authority advised anyone with an egg allergy not to consume the recalled product. Officials stated that the missing allergen information creates a potential health risk and requires immediate corrective action.

Authorities Monitor Recall Process

The SFDA said it is working closely with the company to remove the affected product from the market. The authority is directly overseeing the recall and has taken the necessary measures to protect consumers. Officials also noted that food businesses around the world commonly carry out voluntary recalls under regulatory supervision when they identify potential food safety risks.

SFDA Stresses Legal Responsibility

The authority clarified that conducting a voluntary recall does not exempt a company from legal responsibility for any harm or damages caused by the product. Authorities will address any such cases in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. Reaffirming its commitment to food safety, the SFDA urged consumers to report food-related violations or concerns through its Unified Call Centre (19999).
