Government Warns Against Food Safety Violations
Kerala Health Minister K. Muraleedharan has said the state government will not tolerate any compromise on food safety and will strengthen inspections and legal action against violators, particularly in the wake of recent food poisoning incidents.
Speaking at the launch of the state-level training programme for food business operators and the official rollout of the ‘Youth for Food Safety’ initiative at Food Safety Bhavan in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday, the minister emphasised that every food business operator has a responsibility to prepare and serve food that is safe, hygienic and of good quality.
Youth Engagement for Safer Food
Muraleedharan said the ‘Youth for Food Safety’ initiative aims to increase the participation of young people and food business operators in promoting food safety and raising public awareness across the state.
Minister Stresses Hygiene and Safe Food Practices
The minister warned that unhygienic restaurants and food production units pose a serious risk to public health. He said poor sanitation, the use of contaminated water and unsafe food preparation practices can contribute to the spread of foodborne diseases, including Shigella. He also urged food businesses to strictly comply with food safety standards, including serving only boiled drinking water and maintaining proper hygiene throughout food preparation and service.
