Eid Food Safety Crackdown Sweeps Across Kashmir

Food safety officials in Srinagar intensified inspections across several areas, including Baghat, Natipora, Chanapora, HMT Zainakote, and Boulevard, to ensure compliance with food safety regulations ahead of Eid-ul-Adha. During the drive, authorities collected samples of various food products for laboratory testing to assess their quality and safety standards. Officials also inspected hygiene conditions and sensitised traders about proper food storage practices, especially for perishable items.

The department shut down one tea stall for allegedly violating hygiene provisions under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and imposed spot fines on two food business operators for food safety violations.

Officials Warn Traders Over Unsafe Storage Practices

The Food Safety Department advised traders and vendors to maintain proper storage conditions for perishable food products and avoid exposing food items to direct sunlight. Officials warned that strict action would be taken against businesses found violating food safety norms or prescribed storage guidelines.

Anantnag Seizes Ice Cream Over Labelling Violations

In Anantnag, the Food Safety Department carried out inspections of bakeries, meat shops, dairy outlets, and fruit and vegetable vendors as part of a special festive-season enforcement drive. Officials collected food samples for analysis and directed bakery operators to strictly follow hygiene and sanitation requirements under Schedule IV of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

During the inspections, authorities seized 32 cases of ice cream from an establishment at Laizbal K.P. Road over labelling violations. The department urged food business operators to comply with food safety rules and advised consumers to check food labels carefully before purchasing products.
