Report
Swiggy, a leading food delivery platform in India, has launched a new Swiggy Seal initiative to enhance cleanliness and food quality at its partner restaurants. This decision stems from insights gathered from over 7 million verified customer reviews in the past six months. The program aims to improve food safety and hygiene while building customer trust in the quality of their orders.
What is the Swiggy Seal?
Restaurants can earn the Swiggy Seal badge by maintaining high hygiene and food safety standards. Swiggy emphasizes its commitment to quality through genuine customer reviews. The seal addresses key issues within the food delivery system, focusing on:
- Avoiding contamination
- Correct cooking methods
- Quality packaging
Restaurants that earn the Seal will display the badge on their Swiggy menu pages, signalling their commitment to hygiene. Currently operating in Pune, this initiative will soon expand to over 650 cities across India.
Support for Restaurants
Swiggy offers specialized support to help restaurants enhance their services, including:
- Account managers and structured reports to assist restaurants in meeting hygiene standards.
- Discounted rates for professional hygiene audits through partnerships with FSSAI-accredited agencies like Eurofins and Equinox.
- Online seminars on best hygiene practices and special cleaning and pest management discounts.
Earlier this year in Patiala, a young girl tragically died after consuming a birthday cake ordered through Zomato. Following this incident, Zomato removed the restaurant from its platform and prohibited the owner from managing any businesses on Zomato in the coming days. In 2019, Zomato also introduced a hygiene rating system, yet most restaurants still do not display a designated hygiene badge.
