Food Safety Violations Uncovered in Ameerpet Confectioneries

Report

Recently, inspectors discovered several confectioneries in Hyderabad‘s Ameerpet neighbourhood violating food safety and hygiene regulations. On October 23, 2024, representatives from Telangana’s Food Safety Department conducted inspections in the area.

At Delhi Mithaiwala, the team found multiple concerning issues, including unlabeled food items like milk and curd, open dustbins in the kitchen, and rat faeces in the storeroom, indicating a potential rodent infestation. They noted the absence of insect-proof screens on windows and doors. The inspectors observed that the sugar bags were improperly stored directly on the floor without any spacing from the walls. Furthermore, the establishment lacked water analysis reports, medical fitness certifications, and a supervisor trained in FoSTaC.

Common Violations Found Across Multiple Confectioneries

Inspectors also examined Agra Sweets, where they found the business operating under a registration instead of a state license. The establishment failed to display a copy of its FSSAI registration. The team reported open dustbins, food handlers without head coverings, gloves, or aprons, as well as uncovered and unlabeled food items in the refrigerator. They discovered unlabeled ready-to-eat snacks, which they disposed of, along with expired products like seven packs of bhel and six packets of chivda.

On the same day, the task force inspected Vinuthna Foods and found it operating under an expired registration certificate instead of a state license. The inspectors noted the lack of proper documentation for food purchases and pest control, stating that “no proper storage available at the store.” Food workers failed to wear caps or aprons, and several food items lacked labels.

The team found similar violations at Vasi Reddy Home Foods, which also operated under a registration rather than a state license. The establishment did not display an FSSAI registration document, and food handlers in the storeroom lacked aprons, gloves, and head coverings. The inspectors noted that the establishment provided no medical fitness certificates or pest control documentation, and both pickles intended for sale and ready-to-eat savoury items remained unlabeled.
