FSSAI CEO Calls for Responsible Food Safety Compliance

FSSAI CEO Calls for Responsible Food Safety Compliance

Report

On Friday, G. Kamala Vardhana Rao, CEO of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), urged food business entrepreneurs (FBO) to responsibly incorporate sugar and artificial sweeteners into processed foods. More than 400 participants, including food business operators (FBOs), manufacturers, and regulatory agencies, attended the program held in Hyderabad. Rao emphasized that excessive sugar consumption contributes to obesity and advised businesses to be cautious, especially when creating products for infants, pregnant women, and senior citizens.

Strict Measures for Non-Compliance

Rao warned that FSSAI would enforce strict regulatory measures against manufacturers who fail to comply with safety guidelines. He stressed the importance of using only food-safe plastic for packaging ready-to-eat foods, as microplastics can contaminate food and make it unsafe for consumption.

Concerns Over Pesticides in Agricultural Products

Rao also raised concerns about pesticide contamination in agricultural products such as tea, coffee, and spices, highlighting the need for better regulation and monitoring.

Inspection of Street Food and Mobile Lab

Later, Rao visited the street food centre on Necklace Road in Hyderabad and inspected a mobile food inspection lab. He instructed authorities to consistently monitor street food locations and educate vendors on maintaining safety and hygiene standards.
