Overview
In March, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) tested 163 paneer samples across Karnataka to check for adulteration. This followed a request from the Chief Minister’s office. As of March 17, the authority completed tests on four samples, all of which were found to be free of adulteration. On March 3, the Chief Minister’s office responded to concerns raised by media outlets and social media discussions about the adulteration of paneer. They directed FSSAI Commissioner Srinivas K. to prioritize the assessment of paneer quality in Karnataka to safeguard public health.
Ongoing Testing and Future Action
In his response on March 17, Commissioner Srinivas K. confirmed that FSSAI had dispatched the 163 paneer samples to a specialized lab for analysis. While the four tested paneer samples passed the quality check, testing of the remaining samples is still underway. He assured that FSSAI would take appropriate action based on the results of the remaining tests.
