Panipuri Scare in Telangana: 15 Children Hospitalised

Key Update

A suspected food poisoning incident in Telangana’s Rajanna Sircilla district has left around 15 children hospitalised after they reportedly consumed panipuri purchased from a street vendor. The incident occurred in KCR Nagar Colony, a gated residential community in Thangallapally Mandal, raising fresh concerns about food safety and hygiene practices among roadside food vendors.

According to police officials, the children and several family members purchased panipuri from a vendor who entered the colony to sell the popular street snack. Soon after consuming the food, several children developed symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhoea. Residents rushed the affected children to the Civil Hospital in Rajanna Sircilla, where they are currently undergoing treatment. Health officials are monitoring their condition, and preliminary reports indicate that all the children are receiving appropriate medical care.

Authorities Detain the Vendor and Launch an Investigation

Following the incident, Thangallapally Police detained the panipuri vendor for questioning and launched an investigation into the suspected food poisoning case. Officials are examining whether contaminated ingredients, unsafe water, poor hygiene practices, or improper food handling contributed to the illnesses. Investigators are also verifying the source of the ingredients and assessing whether the vendor complied with food safety requirements.

Food Safety Concerns under Scrutiny

The incident has renewed concerns about hygiene standards and food safety practices among roadside food vendors. Authorities are expected to analyse food and water samples, if collected, to determine the exact cause of the illnesses. Officials said the investigation is ongoing, and the cause of the suspected food poisoning has not yet been confirmed.
