Concerns about hygiene in food establishments have intensified after a troubling incident at L’Opéra’s Khan Market outlet in Delhi. On October 4th, a customer ordered an iced latte and a salted caramel coffee for takeout, but their visit took a shocking turn. After getting into their car to enjoy the drinks, they were horrified to find a cockroach in one of the iced lattes.
A Reddit user named “WaltzSimple6037” shared their alarming discovery online. Initially mistaking the object floating in their beverage for a coffee bean, they soon realized it was a deceased cockroach. Disturbed, the customer promptly returned to the coffee shop to show the staff what they had found.
Although the employees apologized, the customer felt their response was too casual. Expressing concerns about the establishment’s cleanliness, the Reddit user stated, “They showed such indifference and merely repeated apologies like robots, showing no genuine concern.”
Hygiene Concerns
The post sparked a lively discussion on Reddit, with users sharing their own experiences. One commenter asked, “Has anyone else encountered similar problems at this cafe or others?” Responses varied, with some expressing outrage. One user remarked, “This behaviour is inappropriate for any business, especially one with a good reputation.” Another added, “This is what happens when licenses are given to anyone without proper inspections; the food industry in India is a joke!”
Others took a humorous approach, with one person joking, “It’s not a bug, it’s a feature,” while another quipped, “Cockroast coffee.” A third chimed in, “That’s the secret ingredient!”
