Mass Donut Recall in US and Canada Due to Listeria Risk

Report

Over two million assorted doughnut products have been recalled in the US and Canada due to the risk of contamination with Listeria monocytogenes (Listeria). The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that Listeria is the third leading cause of foodborne illness-related deaths in the United States.

FDA Issues Recall Notice for Assorted Baked Products

On Wednesday, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released a report detailing the recall of 60 assorted baked products from FGF, LLC. These products, available in supermarkets across the US and Canada, include a variety of doughnut items. The FDA has classified the recall as Class II. This classification applies when “the use or exposure to a violative product could lead to temporary or medically reversible negative health effects, or when the likelihood of severe adverse health consequences is minimal.”

Recalled Products and Expiration Dates

The recalled products include cake doughnut rings, raspberry-filled doughnuts, French crullers, Bavarian-filled doughnuts, Dunkin’ Donuts items, two varieties of munchkins, and other baked goods. FGF, LLC has voluntarily recalled all products with expiration dates of 12/13/24 and earlier. Listeria is a bacterium that can contaminate food. Consuming contaminated food may lead to infection, causing serious health issues.
