An inquiry has been initiated at Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Delhi after a cockroach was allegedly found in dal served at the doctors’ mess on Tuesday, raising concerns over food safety and hygiene standards within the hospital premises. The issue came to light after a hostel resident shared photographs of the food item and alleged that mess authorities responded casually despite the seriousness of the complaint.
The complainant described the incident as a serious food safety issue and demanded stricter monitoring of kitchen hygiene, food handling practices, pest control measures, and accountability among mess staff.
Hospital Begins Inquiry and Hygiene Inspections
An RML Hospital official confirmed that authorities have initiated an inquiry into the incident. The official said the hospital would take strict action against those responsible for failing to maintain hygiene standards in the doctors’ mess. Authorities have also started hygiene inspections across all associated mess facilities and canteens within the hospital premises. The incident has sparked concern among resident doctors about food quality, sanitation, and hygiene standards in institutional mess facilities that cater to healthcare workers.
