West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced on Saturday that the Sundarbans-based milk cooperative, Sundarini, has received recognition from the International Dairy Federation.
She highlighted that Sundarini earned the award at the third IDF Dairy Innovation Awards in Paris on Friday for its innovative and sustainable farming practices. Sundarini, in collaboration with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), accepted the award.
Landmark Achievement
“We are proud to share another success story of our women from the Sundarbans!” Banerjee posted on X. She shared that Sundarini, along with the NDDB, had won this prestigious international award from the International Dairy Federation.
She noted that Sundarini stood out among 153 submissions from around the world.
Sundarini is a cooperative dairy union under the Animal Resources Development Department, involving 4,500 female farmers from South 24 Parganas district. The cooperative produces 2,000 litres of milk and 250 kg of processed milk products daily.
In 2023-24, the union generated approximately Rs 4 crore in income for the rural women of the Sundarbans. “I commend the women members of Sundarini and our officers for their entrepreneurial spirit,” Banerjee added.
