Tamil Nadu Organic Farmers’ Conference promotes sustainability

Report

A two-day Tamil Nadu Organic Farmers’ Food Safety Conference, centred on promoting sustainable organic agriculture and advocating for chemical-free food consumption, is scheduled for February 15 and 16 at the Texvalley Complex in Chithode. The event aims to gather farmers, eco-social activists, and agricultural experts to discuss vital issues and solutions related to organic farming.

Tamil Nadu Leads in Organic Farming, Faces Environmental Challenges

Representatives from the Tamil Nadu Iyarkai Uzhavar Kootiyakkam, the event organizers, shared that Tamil Nadu is a leader in organic farming. However, they pointed out the growing use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, which is negatively affecting the environment and causing health issues. The conference, organized by pioneers, young farmers, environmentalists, and social activists, will feature speeches, seminars, and experience-sharing sessions. Attendees will also engage in discussions on genetically modified seeds and help develop a 10-year action strategy for organic farming in Tamil Nadu.

Exhibition: Celebrating Traditional Farming and Crafts

The event will showcase farmers’ innovations in natural agriculture, along with basic farming tools, traditional rice varieties, millets, vegetable seeds, tuber crops, and crafts. Vendors will offer conventional seeds, different rice types, and handcrafted items. To complement the conference, a traditional food festival will take place, offering a true taste of organic, chemical-free cuisine.
