On February 4, 2025, at least nine individuals became ill after consuming grilled chicken at a restaurant on Chinnakadai Street in Madurai’s Sholavandan area, raising concerns about food safety in local eateries.

Victims Seek Medical Attention

Among the affected individuals, four were hospitalized at Sholavandan Government Hospital, while the remaining five, who suffered from mild diarrhoea, were taken to the Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) in Madurai. Two of the patients were discharged after treatment at Sholavandan Hospital, while the others are still receiving care.

Investigation and Penalties

The Food Safety Department, along with the police, has initiated a thorough investigation into the incident. As part of the preliminary probe, this Madurai restaurant has been fined for failing to maintain proper hygiene standards.
