Report
The Southern Regional Office of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), in collaboration with Kochi Corporation and the Kerala State Food Safety Department, conducted an awareness program for street vendors in the city on Tuesday. The program aimed to raise awareness about food safety and hygiene among vendors. It focused on personal cleanliness, food preparation, culinary techniques, and waste disposal.
Event Participation
Over 500 street food sellers participated in the event. During the program, FSSAI launched a brochure in Malayalam outlining the rules for street food vendors. Additionally, FSSAI provided hygiene kits and food testing kits to the vendors present. Participants learned about the Food Safety and Standards Act, with a particular focus on the provisions in Schedule 4 regarding the licensing and registration of food enterprises. They also committed to maintaining cleanliness in their food, equipment, and environment while ensuring safe food for all.
Recognition for Food Safety Practices
Throughout the event, FSSAI presented Eat Right Campus certificates to the Central Institute of Fisheries Technology and Rajagiri College of Social Sciences, Ernakulam, for their successful transition into ‘Eat Right Campuses.’ These certificates recognize institutions that prioritize food safety, promote healthy living, and foster sustainable practices.
